Sweet Surprise on a Saturday

Saturday. One of my favorite seven days of the week.

Today started as an “up way before the dawn” day. The task list of my new business was just long enough to prod my sleepy dreaming into wakefulness.

Hot, sweet coffee and my ever present list in hand, the work day began. By 9:00am I was ready to settle back in to sleep for a bit.

One long shower, 47 quick chores, and a huge breakfast later and round two of the work day was about to begin. It was delightfully interrupted by a call from my son and his sweet girlfriend to meet them at the local pumpkin patch. Of course I said yes!

Happy Jack Pumpkin Patch had so many colorful varieties of gourds and pumpkins. Perfect orange, reds, whites and spooky greens. What a welcome field trip for creative inspiration and fun time with family.

We left with a pumpkin as big as the wheelbarrow, a handful of shiny apples, a bowl full of beautiful gourds and a sweet surprise…

ToMaToEs! Yes, tomatoes! In October. What a blessing.

Every day is a good day to have a good day.

Warming up my cold October BONES

It’s a chilly October day in central Kentucky. I’m cold to my bones.

The first days back from the warm Florida sun are always hard. The return to the Kentucky autumn chill makes my bones feel like they clatter and clank.

The wind whips and reminds me that winter is coming.

The sky is layered in an artist palette of shades of gray clouds. They are a beautiful backdrop from the windows as I light autumn scented candles all over the house. Honey apple, vanilla, and caramel scents are so cozy.

Sweet, hot coffee is even better from my oversized seashell mug. It reminds me of my feet on warm sand, the sun on my face, mesmerizing waves, sunwarm skin.

So many ways to snuggle up and rest from the overnight drive.

Journal new project ideas…

Catch up on calls to friends…

Browse Pinterest from under a quilt or three…

Sort thru shopping treasures…

A sweet lazy nap and a kittycat stretch and yawn….

I’ll start my day in a little while.

Wake Me Up When September ENDS

I’m not one to wish my life away. Every day is precious.

September, however, always seemed so long. It’s the month after celebrating August, my birthday month. It’s the month before one of my favorite months, October.

Now there is a reason to celebrate September. My grandbaby. No more sleeping through September. I’m awake, grateful, blessed.

The winds of CHANGE

A new season is blowing in. Autumn. My favorite.

I read an article on this shifting season, written by the staff of my local acupuncture studio, The Light Clinic.

To paraphrase, and by the spiritual seasonal calendar they use, it’s been a season of being handed bucket after bucket of dirt. As soon as you empty a bucket, you have been handed another. What you do with that dirt is up to you. You have either dumped it around you and are stuck in the dirt. Or you have carefully dumped the dirt to build a good foundation for the new season.

I have heard a similar story. A donkey is in a well with no way out. His farmer decides to bury it there. As he dumps bucket after bucket of dirt, the donkey shakes it off and uses it as a foundation to climb out of the well.

Not a bad idea…

The winds of change are blowing wild and free. Perfect time to walk on a firm foundation to the future.

A Pumpkin A Day (9)

20131018-120339.jpg

Such funny faces! Nosy inspiration!

These “stem as the nose” pumpkins are hilarious! Once you see the “face” of the pumpkin this way, it’s easy to let your imagination run wild creating a face.

How am I ever going to choose how to decorate or carve my pumpkin this year?
